Eating diorders!!!!?
I think that part of the reason anorexics get more attention is because although obesity is a very harmful condition and can result in many medical complications, the medical complications of anorexia are typically much more severe and immediate. for example, a person with anorexia will have frequent heart problems as long as they are severely restricting their caloric intake, while it may take many years for an obese person to develop heart problems. anorexia also has the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder and only 30 to 40 percent of anorexics ever fully recover, while about 20 percent will die within 20 years as a result of their disorder. also, anorexia is both a mental and physical condition and although there are people with binge eating disorder and compulsive overeating disorder, not every obese person has one of these disorders. also, eating disorders occur less frequently within the population than obesity does, so people are more accustomed to seeing shockingly obese people than a shockingly anorexic person. and, although obesity and overeating can control a person's life, an anorexic's life is typically extremely controlled by her eating disorder, while a person who is obese may not feel that their obesity interferes much in their life.
