My wife is having an invasive surgery in a few hours, can she have a cough drop?

She will be under anesthesia to have an implant put in her back and they told her not to eat or drink anything after midnight. She has some drainage and is in bed coughing her head off right now, can I give her a cough drop or something? She is 36.
